Red vs. Green Sichuan Pepper: Many people are unaware that Sichuan pepper comes in two varieties - Red and Green. They are not in different stages of maturity but two plants with distinct flavors (think of red wine grapes and white wine grapes). Both are native to Sichuan, and while the red ones have been used in cooking for thousands of years, the green variety is more boutique and has only become popular in China in the past 20 years.

Unrivalled Quality of Red Sichuan Pepper

While dried Sichuan (Szechuan) peppercorns offer remarkable flavors, they must be ground and prepared, with a possibility that coarse fragments give an unpleasant mouth feel. Sichuan pepper oil on the other hand is more convenient to use and preserves the flavor and potency much longer. It is not another hot sauce. In fact, it is not hot at all. The floral bouquet flavor stimulates your palate and nose, while the unique tingling sensation stimulates your tongue and lips. Best as a condiment over pasta, ramen noodles, pizza and salads. A few drops go a long way.

Freshest Product Shipped by Air

We airlift the oils right after the annual harvest in July and August directly from selected farms in the mountains of the Chongqing and Sichuan region. Airlifting helps ensure they are the freshest products outside of China.

Direct Sourcing from Farmers

Sichuan peppers are handpicked as automation has not arrived. While avoiding the thorns, farmers need to work carefully to preserve the peppers and keep them intact. This also reduces the presence of stalks and leaves, ensuring better flavor. Handpicking requires a dexterous, attentive and experienced labor force - notice the sharp thorns on the branches in this short clip.

Premium Cold-Pressed Rapeseed Oil

We use premium non-GMO cold-pressed rapeseed oil. No preservatives, no allergy-causing soybean oil.

Bottled in Georgia in compliance with the US food handling, packaging and labeling standards

Team, just look at my order history.

I thought this would be more hot and spicy, like peppers.
I was very disappointed with the flavor and taste.

Hi Barbara, thanks so much for your order and leaving us a review. I think what you might be looking for was a chili oil product. Our Sichuan pepper oils are indeed not hot or spicy. Rather, it gives your food a tingling numbing sensation and a floral and citrusy aroma from Sichuan peppers. We are sorry about this misunderstanding and your disappointment. Please feel free to email us if we can make it better for you.

LOVE the tingles! Happy to be a return customer!

These oils add amazing depth of flavor to our home cooking- works great in Asian dishes and adds a kick to other types of food. It’s also been a great gift for friends who love to cook and eat!

Finding a variety of uses. Nice product, will buy again. Purchased gift boxes for son and son-in-law for Christmas. They like it too.

Great tingles, bad packaging

I love this product. The only minor downside is that about 50% of the bottles end up leaking a few drops of oil in transit, resulting in a small cleanup job when the packages arrive. And the new bottle design has a spout that only lets out oil in small inconsistent drops, which makes it hard to use the oil.

Thank you so much for your order and leaving us a candid review. As a small growing business, we really appreciate the true voice from our customers. We are so glad you like our product. That's the most important to us.

We are terribly sorry about the leakage. We are aware of the narrow-neck bottle issue you pointed out and it is indeed not ideal. We have since paused sending out those bottles and are using wide neck bottles in the interim. With large supply chain disruptions, our team is currently in China trying to resolve this issue by sourcing the right type of bottle, caps and inserts to reduce the issue of leakage.

We are happy to report that we have finally sourced a suitable bottle option and have started designing the new labels. We can't wait to launch the new design to everyone. Thank you again for your patience, witnessing and tolerating our growing pains. Happy New Year!
