Red vs. Green Sichuan Pepper: Many people are unaware that Sichuan pepper comes in two varieties - Red and Green. They are not in different stages of maturity but two plants with distinct flavors (think of red wine grapes and white wine grapes). Both are native to Sichuan, and while the red ones have been used in cooking for thousands of years, the green variety is more boutique and has only become popular in China in the past 20 years.

Unrivalled Quality of Green Sichuan Pepper

While dried Sichuan (Szechuan) peppercorns offer remarkable flavors, they must be ground and prepared, with a possibility that coarse fragments give an unpleasant mouth feel. Sichuan pepper oil on the other hand is more convenient to use and preserves the flavor and potency much longer. It is not another hot sauce. In fact, it is not hot at all. The floral bouquet flavor stimulates your palate and nose, while the unique tingling sensation stimulates your tongue and lips. Best as a condiment over pasta, ramen noodles, pizza and salads. A few drops go a long way.

Freshest Product Shipped by Air

We airlift the oils right after the annual harvest in July and August directly from selected farms in the mountains of the Chongqing and Sichuan region. Airlifting helps ensure they are the freshest products outside of China.

Direct Sourcing from Farmers

Sichuan peppers are handpicked as automation has not arrived. While avoiding the thorns, farmers need to work carefully to preserve the peppers and keep them intact. This also reduces the presence of stalks and leaves, ensuring better flavor. Handpicking requires a dexterous, attentive and experienced labor force - notice the sharp thorns on the branches in this short clip.

Premium Cold-Pressed Rapeseed Oil

We use premium non-GMO cold-pressed rapeseed oil. No preservatives, no allergy-causing soybean oil.

Bottled in Georgia in compliance with the US food handling, packaging and labeling standards

Customer Reviews

Based on 43 reviews

I’ve tried it with tuna so far and some vegetables and the flavor is great!

New taste

The only reason I give only 4 stars is I’m figuring out how to use my new condiment. I’m thrilled to find a tingly nightshade-free option. Give me time and I’ll have to change to 5 stars. The customer service is 10 stars!!

Just the right amount of heat

Tingles are the best!

I ordered the original Green oil back when I heard about it in 2020. I received my shipment of 2 bottles and the box was greasy as if there was a leak. I didn’t find either bottle was leaking but after reporting this, I heard from Yao himself, and he sent me 2 replacement bottles! Impressed with the personalized service and delicious new flavor to enjoy. Side note: the box that I received the 2nd shipment in was already improved, so additional kudos for the kaizen! Wishing you continued success!

Very Interesting

The effects and flavor were unique and pleasant.
