There are breads you bake — and then there are breads that turn into conversation pieces.
This mahjong-inspired focaccia bread art combines crisp olive oil-rich dough with colorful herbs, peppers, crunchy 50Hertz Tingly Peanuts and Cashews, and little bursts of citrusy electric Sichuan pepper.

It’s playful, collaborative, and meant to feel a little imperfect — like edible collage inspired by mahjong tiles.
Make the dough from scratch with a slow cold ferment, or use quality pizza dough from your favorite local pizzeria.
Let’s make it.
Tingly Mah Jongg Bread Art
Ingredients
Focaccia Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- Olive oil
For Decorating
- 50Hertz green and red Sichuan peppercorns
- 50Hertz Tingly Peanuts
- 50Hertz Tingly Cashews
- 50Hertz Tingly Blend
- Fresh herbs (chives, cilantro, parsley, basil, etc.)
- Scallions
- Colorful peppers
- Flaky sea salt
Method
1. Make the Dough
Whisk together flour, salt, and yeast. Add warm water and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Transfer to an oiled bowl, brush with olive oil, cover, and refrigerate for at least 18 hours or up to 72 hours.
2. Prepare the Dough
Bring dough to room temperature.
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Add 1–2 tablespoons olive oil to a rimmed quarter-sheet pan. Press dough gently into the pan.
3. Decorate
Using mahjong tiles as inspiration, decorate the dough with herbs, peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and Tingly snacks.
Use chive stems or scallions to divide the surface into “tiles.”
4. Bake
Finish with Tingly Blend or flaky sea salt.
Bake 17–22 minutes, until golden brown.
Serve warm and enjoy.
